A group of protesters briefly disrupted the Traveler’s Open PGA Tour event on Sunday, rushing onto the green to shout slogans and wearing t-shirts that read, “No Golf on a Dead Planet.
Watch:
You have to love the clown kicking over a planter full of flowers to protest a “dead planet,” don’t you? These people have no sense of self-awareness whatsoever.
But let’s examine this claim of a “dead planet” for a moment, shall we?
The truth, of course, is that the planet has never been greener throughout recorded history than it is today, thanks largely to the increase in plant food, i.e., carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
Check out this graphic as proof of this amazing greening of the planet over the past several decades:
In fact, Planet Earth has never been more alive.
The planet has also never been safer for human life than it is today. The truth is that global deaths from climate-related disasters have dropped by roughly 98% over the last century:
The planet has also never been more well-fed than it is right now, today. Crop yields have far out-paced population growth over the last 60 years thanks mainly to the advent of nitrogen-based fertilizers using natural gas as a feedstock:
The net result of all this amazing improvement in human life has been a dramatic increase in life expectancy, from 46 years in 1950 to 72 years today:
So, when you see activists like those in that video disrupting golf tournaments, blocking traffic, tossing soup on artistic masterworks, or spray-painting Stonehenge, the only proper response to their antics is to mock and humiliate them for being so ignorant of the world around them.
That is all.
I’m not a golfer but I’m pretty sure those takedowns damaged the greens required expensive repairs; they need to pay for the damage.
I’m sure they’re paid very well.
