Dear readers: I love you all, and appreciate your readership and loyalty. I know many of you have been very upset about the stance I took last week in my piece titled “Done With Trump.”
I’m sorry about all that, but I feel an obligation to be up front and honest with you by giving you my real opinions, and not just saying stuff to try to increase the number of subscribers, like some others do at Substack and elsewhere.
After hearing from many of you in comments here and emails, some of which were quite blunt, others even profane, I have had a slight change of heart about my position towards Trump and his potential nomination in 2024.
No, I won’t support him becoming the party’s nominee. I frankly think that’s a road to the party’s destruction, and really am sick and tired of all of his serial pathologies and unforced errors.
Basically, the GOP still needs Trumpian ideas and policy positions, but without all the Trumpian carnival barker side shows. That’s why I will support Ron DeSantis for the 2024 nomination unless and until he makes it known he is not planning to run. At that point, I’ll work to identify the nearest viable alternative not named Trump.
So, none of that has changed.
What I have changed my mind about - or rather, so many of you have changed my mind about - is this: If Trump becomes the GOP nominee in 2024, I will support his election, even though I don’t believe he can win, regardless of who his opponent might be.
And I will vote for Trump on Election Day, 2024, but only because the alternative, any Democrat who happens to be the nominee, would be so infinitely worse.
That is all.
David I can honestly say I know where you're coming from. But I understand completely where President Trump is coming from this man has been hounded maligned embarrassed prosecuted impeached persecuted AND had things manipulated. I sometimes cringe and wish he would be restrained. He loves this country and we love him ! Perhaps there's a great ticket in the making ;-)
