As The World Burns: The DC Kabuki Theater Just Keeps Rolling Along
Wednesday, I posted the entirely predictable news that the House GOP Conference had chosen Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise as its favored candidate to become the next Speaker. Rep. Scalise is a fine guy with many conservative impulses, but he has also served in the House leadership for many years and thus become a reliable proxy for priorities of the DC Swamp.
It happens to the best of them who spend too many years in the nation’s capital.
Thus, those who celebrated last week’s Matt Gaetz-led ouster of Kevin McCarthy would have found themselves no happier with Scalise’s performance in the impossible job had he managed to secure the 218 votes needed to be elected as McCarthy’s successor.
