I’m old enough to remember when after first-term President Donald Trump released some but not all remaining files in government possession back in 2017, we were told that “a few thousand” files were being held back for national security reasons, or some such nonsense. No more detailed explanation was given at the time, though we later found out from Trump himself that the documents were held back because then-CIA Director Mike Pompeo literally begged him not to release them.
This past Monday, Trump said the documents would be released on Tuesday, saying further that 2017’s “few thousand” documents had somehow multiplied many times over to become a whopping store of 80,000 pages of paper, which second-term Trump promised would be “unredacted.”
Oh.
