Busing Strategy Means Abbott Wins if the Texas Grid Holds Up
Recent polls in the Texas governor’s race have seemed to show the contest between incumbent Greg Abbott and El Paso dilettante Robert O’Rourke tightening up to within 5 or 6 points. The rush of Hispanic and female voters to the GOP that pretty much every poll shows makes me highly skeptical of such results, though. It seems more likely to me that the pollsters are continuing to systematically over-sample Democrats in hopes of influencing this and other races in favor of the Democrats.
But whatever the reason, the polls have tightened, a fact that has demented Dems talking about turning Texas blue again, as they have in every election cycle since 1996. That they have consistently failed miserably to accomplish this elusive target never seems to phase them. The just keep leaning on their big money donors in California and New York to pour money into O’Rourke’s campaign, hoping against hope that this will at long last be his and their year.
