I’m just going to do a little free-form writing this morning because so many things are swirling around in my head…
One of those things is what might have been the greatest World Series game ever played. It happened last night in Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, where the Dodgers hosted the Yankees in Game 1 of the 2024 World Series.
The game had literally everything you could want in a World Series game:
Great pitching, with each starter going deep into the game, and each one throwing a single pitch he’d like to get back.
An incredible bullpen performance by the winning team.
A massive shot by a massive home run guy, Giancarlo Stanton, to give the Yankees the lead and chase Dodgers starter Jack Flaherty in the 6th.
Fantastic base running.
A pair of triples.
Great fielding plays.
Some bad fielding plays.
Two of MLB’s best managers making all the right moves at key moments.
And one of the game’s great players, former MVP Freddie Freeman, who almost lost a child in August and has limped through the playoffs on a bum ankle, jacking a grand slam with 2 outs in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the home team the win.
Even Yankees fans who are real fans of the game of baseball had to admit it was a truly great game.
What a time to be alive.
