While the federal oil and gas reserves remain around 25% of the US total portfolio, today the vast majority of oil and gas production occurs on private and state lands, not federal lands. In 2022, we have dropped to just under 10 percent of oil production in the United States coming from federal lands. Under this Administration’s watch, the number of acres under lease has already fallen by over 10 percent.

Oil production on federal lands has increased in recent years because of past decisions, but with Biden offering fewer and fewer leases, production will decrease on federal lands.
