Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Texas Governor Greg Abbott both are reported to harbor presidential ambitions, whether realistic or not. Since the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, the two seem to have been locked in a tit-for-tat battle of one-upsmanship, with DeSantis generally staying a step or two ahead in the race.
That equation was reversed earlier this year on at least one issue, when Gov. Abbott decided to start sending bus loads of illegal immigrants to Washington, DC in an effort to force politicians in the nation’s capitol to take ownership of at least a small portion of the border problems that they have created. Abbott’s effort there was so successful at upsetting the silly and ineffective D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser that she repeatedly requested help from the National Guard to deal with a few hundred illegals, and then, after those requests were refused by the Pentagon, actually declared a state of emergency in the city.
