Friday's Fraught Absurdities: Why is the WNBA Trying to Destroy Itself?

Ok, I promise this isn’t going to be all about the WNBA, the most unwatchable pro sport ever invented. Matter of fact, I’ve never written about it at all before now, other than to note that Caitlin Clark’s addition to it might attract more eyes to its games, at least when the Indiana Fever is playing.

I say that not because Caitlin Clark happens to be a white girl in a mostly black league, but because Clark is far and away the most impressive female basketball player on the planet. She is basically the Simone Biles of basketball, a transcendent talent who has the potential to elevate an entire sport to bring in a new generation of fans.

But that can only happen if she is welcomed and appreciated by the sport itself.
