While serving in the Texas House of Representatives as the member from a South Dallas district in 1991, Eddie Bernice Johnson famously drew a safe congressional district that she could win in 1992 during the decadal redistricting process in Texas. That gerrymandered wonder of a district kept her in congress for 30 years, enabling her to become fabulously wealthy and finally retire before last year’s mid-term elections.
As happens with the Democrats, Jasmine Crockett, a smart lawyer and former staffer for Cong. Johnson, was chosen by the party to become the person who will hold that seat for the next 30 years and beyond.
