Friday's Fumbling Absurdities: Old Joe Tells Gun Owners to 'Get Off My South Lawn'
Old Joe Biden read another speech last night, and he interrupted my nightly “Wheel of Fortune” routine to do it. So I am well and truly pissed this morning.
In a vain attempt to make himself relevant to the ongoing senate negotiations over a modest gun control/mental health package, Old Joe decided to try to use his bully pulpit to get into the game last night:
Oh, wait, no, that was from a previous South Lawn event at which everyone present was afraid they would get shot as the old fart wandered around wielding a pistol.
Here he was last night:
See that? Old Joe, after weeks of doing nothing on the issue but villify Republicans, suddenly has what he’s calling a “unity agenda.” Isn’t that cute?
But don’t be fooled: He still lashed out at Republicans in the speech, all while telling lie after lie as he always does.
At one point, he claimed “I want to be very clear. This is not about taking away anyone's guns. It's not about vilifying gun owners.” In his next breath, he proposed a ban on “assault weapons.”
You cannot make this stuff up. You just can’t.
In the end, Biden’s speech amounted to no more than this old Dana Carvey SNL skit:
And when it was over, Biden shuffled out to Marine One to head off to his Delaware beach mansion, where he has already spent 130 of his first 499 days in office.
Taken as a whole, the evening was a perfect metaphor for his entire presidency: A used-up, angry, senile old buffoon who has sat around and done nothing for half a century in Washington as the country fell apart, looking for others to blame.
Thanks, Democrats.
Speaking of Democrats, here is the quality of logic they’ve been deploying in their House debates related to gun control:
Sure, if we need bodies we need bodies! Just sign up a bunch of 18 year-olds who have never had a second of gun training in their lives and send ‘em off to get involved in some god-forsaken civil war in which our country has no compelling national security interest at all. Because hey, we have a very lucrative military/industrial/political complex to maintain here, you know?
Holy crap.
Let’s move on before I vomit…
Does this surprise anyone?
That’s right: “Yellowstone,” possibly the single most un-woke program airing on television these days, is also the most popular program airing on television these days.
Gosh, who could’ve imagined that? If you think this reality will convince the woke morons producing all the woke drivel you see in pretty much every other TV show and commercial today to have second thought, well, don’t be silly. Ratings and profits are no longer the name of the game in Hollywood - the woke agenda is.
I mean, hell, if ratings and profits mattered anymore, CNN would no longer be on the air. Think about it.
This DeSantis guy is gold, Jerry, gold!
This is the greatest feel-good story of the day. Here’s an excerpt:
Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) plans to veto tens of millions of dollars that were earmarked for the Tampa Bay Rays after the team released an anti-Second Amendment statement following a couple of recent tragedies.
“DeSantis plans to veto a $35 million legislation for a Pasco County facility that’s earmarked for the Tampa Bay Rays’ spring training,” OutKick reported. “DeSantis’s decision is in response to the Rays politicizing recent shootings in Buffalo and Uvalde ahead of a matchup with the Yankees in May.”
The decision comes after the Rays published a statement last week saying that the tragedies “have shaken us to the core.”
“This cannot become normal. We cannot become numb. We cannot look the other way,” the statement said. “We all know, if nothing changes, nothing changes.”
The organization added that it was donating tens of thousands of dollars to far-left anti-Second Amendment organizations.
“The Rays organization stands committed to actionable change and has made a $50,000 commitment to Everytown for Gun Safety’s Support Fund,” the statement said.
This is so awesome. If every GOP governor in the nation had the massive set of huevos possessed by Mr. DeSantis, we’d be living in a different, and far better, country. DeSantis is much like Ronald Reagan, leading by example and showing his fellow Republicans that they can take on the media and the PC elements of our society and still thrive in office.
Unfortunately, few of his fellow GOP governors seem to be paying attention and following his lead. Which, of course, is typical. These are Republicans we’re talking about here, after all.
Today’s Required Reading: This terrific editorial from the WSJ’s Ed Board is a must-read for everyone:
Why were those warnings ignored? The answer is a combination of politics and mistaken economic models. Democrats ran all of Washington and wanted to justify a huge expansion of the welfare state. Their economic household remedy is always more government spending and easy monetary policy. Most of the press endorsed the Democrats’ $1.9 trillion spending blowout in March 2021 as necessary, though the economy was growing rapidly at the time.
While the Federal Reserve was making its monetary mistakes, progressives didn’t object. They embraced the fad of Modern Monetary Theory that low interest rates could finance any amount of government spending more or less forever.
All of this has been another failure of progressive economics. By focusing solely on macroeconomic demand, while ignoring supply-side and regulatory bottlenecks, their policies fueled the inflation we have today. They also ignored the role of excess money, forgetting economist Milton Friedman’s famous lesson. As President Biden declared in an April 2020 interview, “Milton Friedman isn’t running the show anymore.” That is one campaign promise he has kept.
Go read the whole thing. You’ll be much better informed for having done it.
That is all.
