I have to admit my first reaction to Friday’s announcement that the Trump inauguration ceremonies will be moved inside to the Capitol Rotunda was to assume that a credible threat of an assassination attempt organized by the Deep State had come to light.
The CIA and U.S. intelligence community have a long, sordid history of organizing and carrying out assassinations of heads of state, most likely including the attempts on Presidents John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, and the two efforts to kill Donald Trump during the 2024 election campaign. I been loathe to state it publicly, but I’ve really been expecting the Deep State to take one final shot at preventing a second Trump presidency since November 5, when he soundly defeated Kamala Harris.
Fortunately, that hasn’t happened, but, as I pointed out in my first post this morning, we still have one day to go before Trump is sworn in as the nation’s 47th President, and a public inauguration ceremony and parade to safely carry out. Given the sorry track record of the U.S. Secret Service in protecting American presidents, this is a time of great peril.
