Like me, many of you likely didn’t even notice when James Corden’s Late Late Night talk show aired its final episode last week. You, like me, have probably never wasted a second of your precious time on this Earth watching his show, and likely don’t even know he also had a series of Youtube videos taped in cars doing something or other with someone else or other while driving around. Kind of the fat guy version of Jerry Seinfeld’s also popular video series, but less funny and entertaining.
But Corden’s show did air its final episode last week, and though neither Corden nor the network he was on (CBS) want to publicize it, the fact was his show had become a big money loser for the network. The very liberal Los Angeles Magazine reports that Corden’s show had shed well over half its original audience in recent years, a fall corresponding to the decision by not just CBS, but all three networks, to turn the late night talk show genre into a Trump/Republican bashing genre.
