…and I don’t miss it. Not even a little bit.
Don’t get me wrong: I have enjoyed The Five whenever the right panel members are there, but given that my opinion of the “right” participants include both Harold Ford and Katie Pavlich instead of the rancid Judge Piro, that only seems to happen during every third full moon. Otherwise, the show pretty much annoys me and grates on my nerves anytime I hear Piro’s voice.
I had also made a habit of taking in Bret Baier’s evening newscast several days a week in the hopes of learning something I had not already learned hours before and in more detail via Twitter or another of the news sites I regularly peruse each day. But, after Carlson was fired, I took stock of this, and realized this has mainly been a continuation of a childhood habit.
I grew up watching the Evening News on CBS with my parents, to the point at which sitting in front of the TV simply became a part of the rhythm of my daily life. Everything I knew as a young person I learned from Walter Cronkite, and of course I now realize that a high percentage of that was absurdly slanted and/or simply false. Oh, well.
