Monday's Absurdity of the Day: The Perfect Coda to America's Afghan Mis-Adventure
Some pictures are worth a thousand words; this video clip is worth a million.
The video clip below showing thousands of desperate Afghan citizens running alongside a U.S. military transport plan will forever serve as a sad, pathetic metaphor for our country’s tragic, catastrophic and despicable 20-year involvement in that god-forsaken, semi-civilized country. The plane inexorably moves down the runway, abandoning those Afghans, who now face certain abuse from their new Taliban rulers, just as the U.S. has abandoned so many other allies before them over the last half-century.
The sad and inexorable truth is that the United States of America is an unreliable partner in diplomatic and military affairs, a fickle nation that cannot be trusted to see its efforts to police the world through to a positive end for the host country. In the Middle East, we have done similar things to the people of Iran - abandoning the Shah to the despotic Mullahs during the Jimmy Carter presidency - we have done it to the people of Iraq, we have done it to the people of Syria and Lebanon, and we are in the process of doing it to Israel.
And we wonder why these people hate us?
This video clip tells the entire story.
That is all.
And lest we forget, there are a few thousand US citizens stuck there too. As I posted earlier, there are some very horrific images that will displayed to the world in the coming days.
