Monday's Absurdity of the Day: Why Didn't the UN Solve World Hunger in 2020?

Talk about making a damn fool of yourself ( and no, for once I’m not talking about Joe Biden): Saturday, an official with the UN be-clowned himself and the entire organization.

Of course, that happens with great regularity - for example, every time Fatih Birol, the head of the UN’s International Energy Agency, opens his mouth to speak. But I digress.

This was not about energy, but about world hunger. After CNN Business published a typically idiotic piece quoting the Executive Director for the UN’s World Food Program, one David Beasley, as claiming that 2% of Elon Musk’s wealth could “solve world hunger,” Dr. Eli David responded with a quick fact check indicating that 2% of Musk’s wealth amounts to just $6 billion.

As you can see in the screenshot below, he also noted that the 2020 budget for the UN’s World Food Program amounted to $8.4 billion, and wondered “how come it didn’t “solve world hunger”?

It’s a great question, one that Musk himself seized upon. Musk challenged the UN to “describe on this Twitter thread exactly how $6B will solve world hunger,” and pledged to sell Tesla stock immediately to get the money if the UN could do so.

A few moments later, Musk, aware that at least 80% of UN funds are wasted or literally stolen by UN officials every year, stipulated that “it must be open source accounting, so the public sees precisely how the money is spent.”

Very predictably, no one at the UN was willing to take Musk up on the challenge. Because the UN is staffed by a sorry collection of fools, liars and thieves. Of course, so is CNN, which explains why it was the chosen conduit for the idiotically false UN message about world hunger.
