Did Ron DeSantis get out of the 2024 GOP nomination fight just in time?

As I reported here yesterday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis suspended his campaign Sunday in advance of Tuesday’s vote in the New Hampshire primary. DeSantis was out of money and trailing Nikki Haley badly in the race for second place in both the Granite State and Haley’s home state of South Carolina. Thus, seeing no real path for winning the nomination or even remaining in the race for much longer absent a major infusion of donor money, DeSantis chose the better part of valor and got out while the last official finish on his record would be the decent 2nd place he recorded well behind Trump in Iowa.

Many observers are now saying that this will spell the end of DeSantis’s political career and that he has no future in electoral politics. To that I would just mimic the great Lee Corso in saying, not so fast my friend.
