Monday's Monstrous Absurdities: Liars, Damn Liars and Senate Democrats
Let’s start the week with a peek at New York Governor Kathy Hochul trying and miserably failing to appear to be this thing politicians like to privately call a “normal person”:
First, that’s not a barbecue: It’s a grill, you moron. Second, if you were really doing the cooking, that bright white dress/apron combo would be splattered with grease. At least, if you were cooking that meat the right way.
Third, stop trying to look like a normal person. Nobody, not even your own supporters, are fooled by this staged photo-op. All this does is make you look ridiculous, something you really don’t need any help in doing.
Stop it. For God’s sake, just stop.
Let’s move on…
Speaking of politicians not fooling anybody, even their own supporters, this Twitter user has the Republicans in congress perfectly figured out:
He’s right, you know. Even if the GOP wins the majorities in both houses of congress in November, only the most naive among us truly expect Kevin McCarthy and Mitch McConnell to lift a finger to try to reverse any aspect of this “Inflation Reduction Act” atrocity other than its tax increases on corporations.
Oh, they’ll all be reciting all the focus-grouped talking points about repealing the vast new pork for Big Wind and Big Solar in the bill, along with its massive increases in wasteful social spending and new taxes on lower and middle class Americans: That’s a given. What you won’t see, though, is any real efforts by the GOP caucus in either the Senate or the House to actually fight to reverse any of it.
Because, as George Carlin famously told us about the DC Swamp: “It’s all a big club, and we aren’t in it.”
Sad, but true.
Today’s selection from our Liars, Damn Liars, and Senate Democrats file:
Just in case anyone is still stupid enough to believe this, let me again share this table from the bill’s own supporting literature:
Yes, there most certainly WILL be an army of IRS agents descending on the average American as a result of this bill’s doubling of the IRS budget and hiring 87,000 new auditors into that agency. That is in fact the central focus of the tax section of this latest Democrat legislative atrocity.
And you can count on this: Neither Mitch McConnell nor Kevin McCarthy will spend a penny of their cherished political capital next year trying to reverse this aspect of the bill. They will be far too busy and focused on working to please their corporate benefactors, pretty much all of which seem to be run by woke Democrats these days.
Again, it’s a big club and you aren’t in it.
Meanwhile, over in Ukraine…:
But don’t worry: The sensationalistic AP headline is wildly overstated. The chief is not worried about a nuclear meltdown - at least, not yet.
Here’s an excerpt from the story:
The U.N. nuclear chief warned that Europe’s largest nuclear power plant in Ukraine “is completely out of control” and issued an urgent plea to Russia and Ukraine to quickly allow experts to visit the sprawling complex to stabilize the situation and avoid a nuclear accident.
Rafael Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, said in an interview Tuesday with The Associated Press that the situation is getting more perilous every day at the Zaporizhzhia plant in the southeastern city of Enerhodar, which Russian troops seized in early March, soon after their Feb. 24. invasion of Ukraine.
“Every principle of nuclear safety has been violated” at the plant, he said. “What is at stake is extremely serious and extremely grave and dangerous.”
Grossi cited many violations of the plant’s safety, adding that it is “in a place where active war is ongoing,” near Russian-controlled territory.
[End]
So, Mr. Grossi is worried that safety processes at Europe’s largest capacity nuke plant have been tossed out the window in the midst of a war. That is a perfectly legitimate concern, and his requests for access to the plant to ensure its safety should be taken seriously by the Russian and Ukrainian governments.
But here we one more example of a U.S. media outlet sensationalizing a headline in order to draw clicks to a fairly bland story, just one of so many bad motivations that have created our current utterly corrupt media establishment.
So incredibly tiresome.
That is all.
