One aspect of last week’s events that hasn’t gotten as much attention as it deserves is the question of why congress and the White House are suddenly so anxious to go after Tik Tok? If you remember, congress held a series of hearings on this very topic during 2022 and 2023, but decided not to pursue the question despite a wealth of evidence that the Chinese government controls the app’s alogrithm.

The media is filled now with reports about Biden’s promise to sign a bill going after Tik Tok after the bill passed the senate last week. The House plans to vote on it later this coming week.
