Actually, the “not-in-my-back-yard” (NIMBY) syndrome has existed in the fabulously wealthy socialist vacation home enclave of Martha’s Vineyard for many decades now. This is a place for the people in our society who consider themselves to be the “elites” among the roiling masses, and who believe their fortunes - whether earned, deserved or not - will insulate them from the nuisances presented to the rest of us by the real world.
It is no accident that the Vineyard has been a favored playground of America’s nominal, mostly-leftwing “royalty,” many of whom have risen to the heights of the political world. You know, like the Obamas, who famously shelled out millions on a beach home just 2 feet above the sea levels they constantly warned us all were rising.

There are no gravel pits in Martha’s Vineyard. There are no cement plants there, soiling the air with their nasty dust. No coal-fired power plants dot the landscape there, no offshore drilling platforms messing up the precious view shed. Nobody’s smelting iron anywhere in the vicinity, there are no 18-wheelers rolling down main street, and the hours during which gas-powered lawn equipment may be fired up are tightly controlled so as not to interfere with naps or afternoon tea.
Not even the beautiful “green” energy resources are safe from the NIMBY impulses of the Martha’s Vineyard elites. When a gigantic offshore wind farm was initially proposed to be sited adjacent to the island many years ago, residents threw fits of rage at the very notion that anyone would dare to try to spoil their beach views in such a way. Their protests echoed all the way to Washington, DC, where accommodating Democrat officials took care to force the wind operator to push its operation into deeper-than-desired waters fully 15 miles offshore, and thus safely over the visible horizon.
