Only in America

If their elected representatives are any indication, we can be fairly sure that pretty much no Democrats watched Saturday’s military parade, and that’s a real shame. Although their politicians like Tim Walz and Jamie Raskin spent the week smugly predicting the parade would be a tribute to President Donald Trump on his 79th birthday (which happened to coincide with Flag Day this year), and a display similar to the kinds of military parades seen in Russia or North Korea, the parade that rolled down Pennsylvania Avenue yesterday and the events surrounding it were nothing like that at all.

What we saw instead was an hours-long tribute to everyone who has sacrificed to serve in the United States Army across its 250-year history. From the American Revolution through today, the parade featured men and women wearing every official uniform donned by Army troops across the decades.

As protests smearing America and President Trump, paid for and organized by Democrat party surrogate NGOs, raged across many of America’s Democrat-controlled cities, the parade ceremony was interspersed with a series of video tributes that would bring tears to the eyes of most patriotic citizens who love this country.

What the parade highlighted throughout was the difference between America and totalitarian or authoritarian nations like North Korea and Russia, and what Victor Davis Hanson correctly pointed out in one of his early books: That the reason why free democracies prevailed in the major wars of the 20th century is the simple fact their armies are made up of free people who feel truly honored to serve their countries.

Think of the uniquely American contrast we witnessed on Saturday. On the one hand, thousands of leftist goons taking to streets, attacking law enforcement officers there to try to keep the peace, burning cars, shouting obscenities, looting the local Apple store while they’re at it in the most grotesque displays of depravity imaginable.

On the other hand, thousands of personnel from our all-volunteer Army and the President of the United States taking a few hours to honor those who have sacrificed so much over 250 years to preserve the right to protest.

It’s a humbling thing to witness, isn’t it? It’s the kind of day that causes many of us to take a moment to reflect on how lucky we are to live our lives in this great nation during this time in human history.

What a time to be alive.
