Quick Note: Maybe Beto O'Rourke Should Reconsider That Run For Governor
Holy cow, this is going to be plumb ugly, as my dear ‘ol Dad would have said. A new poll released by the very liberal polling group at Quinnipiac contains epically bad news for Texas Democrats and Irish Bob O’Rourke, aka the favorite son of the Texas and national news media.
In its new poll taken in early December, Quinnipiac finds Irish Bob trailing incumbent GOP Gov. Greg Abbott by a whopping 52-37 margin.
"How far behind is Beto O'Rourke? 15 points is more than your typical two touchdown deficit in football and an even bigger hole in the game of politics. That said, Texas is a big state with big issues and there's a lot of time to play catchup between now and November 8, 2022,"said Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Tim Malloy.
Yikes.
The ever-opportunistic O’Rourke no doubt went into this race under the belief he could gain some sort of political redemption following his buffoonish failure of a presidential run in 2020 if he could just make it a close race with Abbott. Indeed, the first poll taken after his announcement, by Rice University in mid-October, showed the race a dead heat at 43% for Abbott to O’Rourke’s 42%. Subsequent surveys from the Dallas Morning News and UT/Texas Tribune pegged Abbott’s lead at 6% and 9%, respectively.
This new poll from Quinnipiac somewhat predictably shows that the more Texas voters consider the prospect of having the weirdo El Paso dilettante serving as their governor, the less they like it. Perhaps Irish Bob should follow Matthew McConaughey’s example and reconsider this choice before it’s too late.
Some other interesting findings in this poll:
Abbott leads among Hispanics by a 44-41 margin, a sure death knell for Texas Dems;
Abbott leads among women by 48-41, another stake through the heart for the Dems;
Abbott leads among independents by 47-37, following a very decided national trend in the GOP’s favor;
Joe Biden’s public approval rating among Texas voters is 32% compared to 62% disapproval.
In short, there is not even the slightest shred of positive news in this poll for either Irish Bob or the Texas Democrat Party. And it will likely only get worse for the party of depravity from here on out.
