First, a note to those who continue to obsess about Katie Britt’s response to the State of the Union address: I get it. You didn’t like it. She was too dramatic. Her kitchen was too high-end for most voters. Her delivery was too slow and all that other stuff.
Here’s why I think none of that matters: She wasn’t trying to please us with that speech. And by “us,” I mean the basic conservative/populist/Trump loyalists who read my Substack. Especially if you, like me, are an old white guy - you were the last person that message was designed to appeal to.
So, who was she trying to appeal to? Think about which voter demographic has been the major thorn in the side of the GOP for the past 15 years now - who is that?
White, suburban, middle-class to upper middle-class moms.
