I honestly was only vaguely aware of actress Sydney Sweeney before this past week, when this utterly insane controversy over her extremely effective ad for American Eagle jeans erupted across woke mobland. I hardly ever watch current movies and can’t say I’ve ever seen her in an acting role, but man, am I aware of her now.
How could anyone who hasn’t been living in an Alaskan north slope igloo or an Ethiopian cave not be aware of her at this point? And hell, thanks to Starlink, some of those igloos have wifi these days, so even that’s no excuse.
Anyway, it was plenty good enough for me that she and American Eagle both refused to offer even a smidgen of an apology at the altar of wokeism for the ad, which resulted in AE’s stock rocketing up by 16%.
And hey, if a beautiful young woman wants to look sexy in a TV ad, whom am I to object? It worked for Beyonce’ 25 years ago, and for Halle Berry and Farrah Fawcett (no boomer alive today could ever forget that shaving cream ad) long before then, so why not Sydney? It’s a tradition as old as television itself.
