Hurricanes in Florida always seem to add insult to injury for EV owners. Who can forget the fiasco that took place when millions of Floridians were forced to evacuate to avoid being in the path of Hurricane Irma in 2017? Owners of Teslas and other EVs found out the hard way that their cars are not suited to having to sit in stop and go traffic for 8-12 hours with millions of their fellow drivers, and had to leave their vehicles on the side of the road.
Now, in the wake of Idalia, EV owners are finding out the hard way that their very expensive car’s batteries are also not compatible with salt water. The EV-pushing media was filled on Saturday with stories about EV batteries that had been hit by floodwaters unexpectedly bursting into flames to the shock of unsuspecting owners.
Here’s an excerpt from a story at Yahoo News about an incident involving one such Tesla:
PINELLAS PARK, Fla. — A Tesla that was parked near the ocean and was being towed following Hurricane Idalia’s surge in the Tampa Bay region was destroyed by flames Thursday, the Pinellas Park Fire Department said.
While the official cause of the inferno is unknown, firefighters said the electric vehicle was submerged along the coast in Pinellas County, raising suspicions that salt water likely played a role.
During previous weather events where water has compromised batteries, electric vehicles have erupted into flames that require an extensive response by firefighters.
"We sprayed about 200 gallons per minute at the car, and it took us about 45 minutes to extinguish," the fire department said.

You have to love how the story claims the “official” cause of the fire is “unknown” when everybody really knows what caused the fire. But hey, that’s what our dying legacy media does in situations like this.
A story published by Newsmax was a little more direct and honest:
Firefighters in a Florida city slammed by Hurricane Idalia are warning residents that electric cars impacted by saltwater flooding are at risk of catching fire.
The warning comes from Palm Harbor Fire Rescue, which detailed the risk in a Facebook posting late Wednesday afternoon.
Under the heading "WARNING," it said: "If you own a hybrid or electric vehicle that has come into contact with saltwater due to recent flooding within the last 24 hours, it is crucial to relocate the vehicle from your garage without delay. Saltwater exposure can trigger combustion in lithium-ion batteries. If possible, transfer your vehicle to higher ground.
*This includes golf carts and electric scooters. Don't drive these through water. PHFR crews have seen numerous residents out in golf carts and children on scooters riding through water."
According to the Miami Herald, two Tesla cars — one in Pinellas Park and the other in Palm Harbor — appeared to spontaneously combust after the hurricane flooded the vehicles with saltwater. The newspaper attributed the information to Florida officials.

Just one more reason - as if we needed one - to avoid the pricey monstrosities.
Speaking of avoiding monstrosities, the corrupt propaganda media is making a big deal today about the effort by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to avoid disrupting his state’s recovery efforts to give Old Joe the Sock Puppet a photo op at his expense.
But interestingly, the old fart himself decided not to say anything nasty about the whole ridiculous thing:
“No, I’m not disappointed - he may have had other reasons…but he did help us plan this,” Biden said when a corrupt reporter tried to set him up to create a controversy where none should exist.
DeSantis himself explained the extremely valid reason why he had “no plans” to take time out of his very busy day helping fellow Floridians in their recovery efforts to do a photo op with a guy who is just in the way.
Here’s what his spokesman said in all of those stories:
“We don’t have any plans for the governor to meet with the president tomorrow,” DeSantis’ press secretary, Jeremy Redfern, said in a statement on Friday.
“In these rural communities, and so soon after impact, the security preparations alone that would go into setting up such a meeting would shut down ongoing recovery efforts,” he added.
This is very, very simple: Because Biden insists on travelling with such an enormous entourage involving an armada of planes and a parade of vehicles that disrupt traffic across a huge region, he is doing no good here. That’s what DeSantis is trying to communicate, and why he is not going to disrupt an entire day to go meet with a guy who has nothing constructive to add to the situation, and it’s why he sent Sen. Rick Scott to deal with Biden instead.
This is not hard, yet you can be sure this story will be top of the agenda on every one of today’s Sunday political talk shows.
The corrupt, propaganda media is truly the Enemy of the People, as Trump defined it. They are instruments of our country’s looming destruction.
That is all.
If you consider just the entertainment value of having a clown to cheer up the "EV Survivors" in Florida, there is that...
