Costco still has a bag of six Romaine heads for about $7. I gave up on the HEB Romaine because it has the flavor and texture of spinach.
You still can't get a plastic bag at the HEBs in Austin. I suspect there's some self-righteous virtue signaler in HEB's Austin management. He's probably also sourcing produce "locally" and you can't grow Romaine in Austin except in the Winter. So the stuff they carry now is almost certainly some hot-weather variety that is really more spinach than Romaine.
Anyway, point is, affordable and delicious lettuce at Costco.
