I have repeatedly marveled at the unprecedented display of spine and guts since August by West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin. When left to his own devices in the past, Manchin has always been the ultimate gutless surrender monkey, talking a good game about opposing horrible Democrat bills, but ultimately giving in to the bullying of Harry Reid or Chuck Schumer in the end.
But things have been different over the past 3 months, as congressional Dems have struggled among themselves to move their monstrous “budget reconciliation” bill that would serve as the final dagger through the heart of America’s failing economy. Rather than just talking a good game about opposing the bill, which originally had an $8 trillion price tag, and then quickly surrendering as he has always done in the past, Manchin has held firm as that tag has been whittled down, first to $5 trillion, then to $3.5 trillion and most recently to $1.75 trillion as Schumer and Pelosi have desperately tried to get him on board.
But as recently as yesterday, Manchin was still most definitely not on board, citing his concerns about out-of-control inflation currently infecting our economy in this tweet:
Make no mistake about it: That tweet was intended as a signal to Pelosi and Schumer not to hold their planned vote on what is now being called the “Build Back Better” bill on Friday.
