The Campaign Update: Why Democrats Face A Wipeout in Texas in November
The Democrat party has mounted efforts to “turn Texas blue” in every election cycle since they ran former Houston mayor Bill White for governor against Rick Perry in 2010. That was a wipeout.
They were going to turn Texas blue in 2012, when Barack Obama ran for re-election against Mitt Romney. Romney won Texas.
They were really, really, truly going to turn Texas blue in 2014, when they famously nominated “Abortion Barbie” - former state Senator Wendy Davis - for governor against Greg Abbott. That was an epic wipeout.
They were absolutely confident they would turn Texas blue in 2016, when Hillary Clinton was going to destroy Donald Trump. Trump won Texas easily.
They were hoping, at least, to turn Texas blue, or maybe a shade of purple, when they ran the hopeless, under-funded Lupe Valdez for governor against Greg Abbott in 2018. Abbott killed her.
