The thing to keep in mind about Gavin Newsom’s suddenly elevated public profile is that nothing the Democrat party does at a national level happens organically. If it seems to you as if the California governor is suddenly everywhere all at once, that’s because there has been a plan to make that happen.
In just the last week, Newsom has:
Done a major interview on 60 Minutes;
Served as the White House’s talking points monkey in the spin room of the GOP debate; and
Agreed to stage a televised debate with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in November.
These are not the moves of a shrinking violet whose ambition is merely to be part of the Dem Greek chorus reciting pro-Biden talking points as Election Day 2024 approaches. These are the moves of someone engaged in a carefully planned PR campaign to raise his public profile on a national level. They are the moves of a politician planning to run for national office; say, the presidency.
