Mayra Flores, the face of a political earthquake.
Sorry about the last couple of days - I was down on the Frio River near Uvalde on a family getaway. Sure was fun floating on the chilliest, spring-fed river in Texas while sipping on a cold one during this current heat wave.
Uvalde is in Texas congressional district 23, the nation’s largest district geographically, given its expanse from San Antonio 551 miles west out to El Paso. A couple hundred miles to the East (Texas is a real big place) lies congressional district 34, another big one that begins at the state’s southern border in Brownsville and ends 160 miles up the coast on the Southern outskirts of Corpus Christi.
It was in that district, which is 87% Hispanic and has been held by one Democrat after another for more than 150 years, that a political earthquake happened on Tuesday. On that day, Mayra Flores, a Republican, defeated a pair of Democrats to win a clear majority of votes on a special election to replace retiring Filemon Vela ( the 538.org map above identifies the wrong incumbent.)
“For over 100 years, we have been taken for granted,” Flores said at her election night party in San Benito. “I will show you what real representation looks like. I will represent all people.” If she does that, she will be the first member of congress to make any effort to represent all people in the district and not just loyal Democrats for more than a century and a half.
Flores will have to immediately crank up a general election campaign, given that she must now stand for re-election in November. The Texas Tribune reports that the head of the Texas Democratic Party, Gilberto Hinojosa, downplayed Flores’ victory in a statement, saying the GOP “could barely squeak out a win” given all their financial advantages. Echoing national Democrats, he expressed confidence that Flores would occupy the seat only for a matter of months.
“In January 2023, this seat will rightfully return to Democratic hands,” Hinojosa said.
That might happen. Then again, it might not, given the current status of various polls. Regardless, a Republican victory under any circumstances in this particular congressional district was simply unthinkable as recently as 6 years ago. But Donald Trump and his exposure of the truth about the DC Swamp, has changed all of that now, as Hispanic voters continue to abandon the Democrat Party that has exploited them for far too long.
Tuesday was a great day not just for Republicans, but for America. If you contribute money to just one political campaign this year, Rep. Flores’ campaign for re-election would be a great choice.
Let’s move on…
From our “This Will Not End Well” File…
Truly, when these three incarnations of political evil huddle up together, the aroma of burning sulphur is overwhelming. Only havoc and destruction can result.
Here’s an excerpt from the Hill story:
President Biden on Wednesday met with Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) at the White House to discuss ways to combat inflation, an issue weighing heavily on Democrats heading into November’s midterms.
The three leaders “discussed their plans for fighting the global problem of inflation that is affecting every major economy, such as bringing down prescription drug and energy costs, and adding to the historic deficit reduction we have accomplished,” according to a White House readout of the call.
The meeting comes as the White House and congressional Democrats face pressure to bring down prices, and gas prices in particular.

Oh, hey, Democrat Rep. Cedric Richmond has a typically vapid idea - create more inflation by reviving the “Build Back Better” atrocity:
This is Democrat “thinking” in a nutshell: Double down on failure. It’s all they know how to do anymore.
You just cannot make this stuff up, folks. Don’t even try.
Speaking of things you could never possibly make up if they didn’t actually exist, check this out:
That’s right: The apparent abject racists at the WHO are renaming the Monkey Pox virus out of concerns about…wait for it…RACISM.
I’m not about to actually type out the details of this due to their despicably racist nature. You’ll just have to watch and hear the video for yourselves.
When even CNN admits Joe Biden is the worst president EVER:
November is going to be an unprecedented Red Wave. Do not doubt me on this.
That is all.
One way to help ensure fair elections is with a vetted voter ID card. Sorry democrats/socialists/communists, no more dead people or illegal invaders voting, no more "vote early and often" scams and no more busing thousands of people around all day to vote in different places. If India and Pakistan can both provide fully vetted vote ID cards to their populations despite the fact that they are some of the poorest nations in the world, we can too!
On your last sentence. How many election districts, whatever, are still using Dominion machines? That may make the difference come Nov. as to whether or not there is a Red Wave. Sad to say.
In the video of Rep. Richmond, he blinks so much while lying through his teeth that it almost tempted me to relearn the semaphore from my Navy days. Just to see if he might be sending a signal to the lefties in the audience. Sheesh.
Oh, your getaway sounds like it was fun. Good.
