Yes, friends, the Democrat members in the House have installed (because Dems don’t elect leaders, they install them) new leaders for the upcoming 117th session of the United States Congress.

As expected, far left radical from New York Hakeem Jeffries, whom the media pretends is some sort of ‘moderate,’ was selected to replace San Fran Nan as the minority leader. Jeffries is 52, 30 years younger than his predecessor. His chief deputy will be an unaccomplished 59 year-old, Katherine Clark of Massachusetts, and the party’s caucus chair will be California’s Pete Aguilar, who is 43. Clark replaces the outgoing Steny Hoyer, who is 83.

Such a youth movement!

The only surprise in all of this is that South Carolina’s old hack James Clyburn, age 82, will face a challenge from Rhode Island’s 61 year-old Paul Cicilline for the position of “Assistant Leader,” in an actual election process to be held on Thursday. Cicilline will have some support, given that many of the party’s younger members want to start the new congress with a full clean slate of new leaders.

Cicilline is basing his candidacy on identity politics, because of course he is - he’s a Democrat, after all. In a letter sent to his colleagues, he urged them to vote for him against his Black opponent because he is…wait for it…gay:

"I think it is critical that the House Democratic Leadership team fully reflect the diversity of our caucus and the American people by including an LGBTQ+ member at the leadership table, which is why I’ve decided to run for Assistant Leader."

I can’t help wondering how the NAACP will react should a white gay man be voted in over a Black man who is a long-time part of House leadership by nothing but Democrats. Should be interesting.
