Donald Trump has never been a “conservative” in the ideological sense, and that has lots of ‘but muh principles’ Republicans nervous.
Hopefully, readers here know by now that Trump is in fact a populist with liberal tendencies, as is the case with pretty much any populist going all the way back to Huey Long in the US, and long before that in other parts of the world. That reality is at the base of the rationale employed by the ‘never-Trumpers,’ the sordid collection of DC-based grifters on the right who use it to justify their lunatic support of soulless Deep State stooges like Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and Kamala Harris as being somehow preferable to Trump.
It’s a rationale that has led the cretins who run the National Review to cause the corpse of William F. Buckley to roll over in his grave about 100,000 times since 2015 and has led to the formation of clownish enterprises like the Lincoln Project, whose founder was a well-known pedophile, and the Bulwark. Hey, any perversion is justifiable in the pursuit of some grifter’s notion of ‘ideological purity,’ right? Sure. You bet.
I bring this all up this morning because the reliable Democrat activists who run the propaganda rag Axios on behalf of the Deep State stumbled across this reality over the weekend in a story celebrating the array of Trump cabinet and senior advisory candidates as “united,” “liberal,” and “The most ideologically diverse cabinet of modern times.” Because, you know, diversity is our strength, or something.
