Note: I came across this interview between Tucker Carlson and a fellow named Santiago Pliego yesterday and was intrigued by it to such an extent that I wanted to share it here. Pliego is an investor who runs a private equity group called New Founding, which invests in a particular kind of startup venture, as he describes in this interview.
The thing that intrigues me about Pliego’s discussion of the “Vibe Shift” he is seeing now through his business dealings is that I think we are starting to see a similar shift in the “vibe” across other key aspects of our society.
The rise of a new array of comics who are dismissive and critical of woke culture is a leading indicator of this, in my view. Standup comics, since the 1960s, have always been on the leading edge of major shifts in our culture. From Lenny Bruce to George Carlin to Richard Pryor to Jerry Seinfeld to John Stewart and even to Stephen Colbert, it is easy to point to a consistent 60-year continuum of this phenomenon.
The standup comic culture went full woke during the Obama years and the leadup to the rise of Trump. Today, the same comics who dominated that movement can’t get jobs in the popular comedy clubs anymore. They’ve been displaced by non-woke guys like Dave Chappelle and Shane Gillis and a host of non-woke fellow travelers. Even Seinfeld is finding his voice again, another great sign.
We also are now seeing the shift in the energy space, especially in the collapse of the offshore wind fiasco in the Northeast and the rapid disintegration of Biden’s subsidized drive to push us all to electric vehicles. It’s happening in many other aspects of our society now, too.
The big question now is whether this Vibe Shift will be able to keep growing, or if the Deep State will react fiercely and brutally to kill it all off. As Michael Shellenberger points out in the piece I posted here last night, the tilting factor in that equation would involve the destruction of Elon Musk and X, which is the last remaining social media platform that allows some modicum of free speech and sharing of real news that runs contrary to the official narrative.
That key factor is a topic Plieto emphasizes in this interview. So I’ll shut up now and let you get to it. Just watch it and/or read the transcript I’ve prepared for you below - you’ll be glad you did.
