Montana Congressman Matt Rosendale - one of the 8 who deposed Kevin McCarthy from the Speaker’s post a couple of weeks ago - tells Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo this morning that Ohio Cong. Jim Jordan will have the votes to be elected to fill that post by the House GOP Conference later today. If so, that’s great news.
Just to pat myself on the back a little bit, the morning after McCarthy was booted from the job, I wrote here that Jordan would be the ideal candidate to assume the office, and a far superior choice to Louisiana Cong. Steve Scalise. Call it the blind hog principle at work if you like, but I do get things right here sometimes.
Keep your fingers crossed for Jordan today, because it is long past time Republicans elevated a real conservative to the Speaker’s post. But fair warning: Jordan is about to assume a near-impossible job trying to keep such a tiny and fractured majority together to do meaningful things.
