A Bit of This and A Bit of That

January 12, 2024

Congressional update

Share

Little progress has been made on funding the government or averting a partial government shutdown prior to January 19th.  House Republicans have a two-seat majority and Speaker Johnson must either keep Republicans together or rely on a large bloc of Democrats to support the Senate-House agreement. That agreement technically determined top-line numbers for the appropriations measures which of course were immediately opposed by the hard-liners. The GOP Shiite faction is now whispering they will move to vacate the Speakership if they don’t like the agreement.
