Singer/songwriter Neil Young, a 78 year-old relic from another era, stepped out a bridge too far this week and dropped right into a raging river, his music never to be heard again on the Spotify platform. His actions were so silly that even his ideological leftist buddies at the Daily Beast were happy to wave him goodbye.
Young, obviously suffering from delusions of grandeur - or perhaps, like our nominal President, from delusions of dementia - challenged the owners of the Spotify platform to either get rid of Joe Rogan, or he would pull his catalog of songs, some of which are admittedly pretty classic, from their play list. Young, in his leftist fantasy world, alleged that Rogan has been spreading “misinformation” about COVID vaccines.
It turns out this was not the hard choice Mr. Young imagined it might be.
Lessee here….Neil young weekly plays on Spotify: A few hundred thousand.
Joe Rogan daily audience: 11 million.
See the problem here for a singer who hasn’t had a hit song in half a century? Yeah.
Look, I got nothing against Neil Young: He wrote some of the ballads of my youth and produced a couple of classic albums with Crosby, Stills and Nash. Yeah, he’s got a grating voice that means the best versions of his songs are covers by other people who can actually sing, but hey, he still wrote them.
But here’s the deal: If you’re going to go after Goliath, you’d better make sure you at least have some ammunition to load up into your slingshot. In this battle, Mr. Young had bupkis.
His situation was so silly, in fact, that even the leftist hacks at the Daily Beast went after him in a mocking piece that details how Young himself really has spread misinformation.
Here’s an excerpt from that story:
This is the same Neil Young who in 2015 released an entire album, The Monsanto Years, that’s wall-to-wall songs from an anti-biotechnology point of view.
Young’s anti-GMO rhetoric helped fuel a narrative that made it easy to spread fear and distrust about COVID vaccines, most of which used novel biotechnology methods and some of which use genetic engineering.
A collective amnesia has set in amongst progressives regarding the left’s past pandering to the anti-biotechnology movement. Reactionary luddism—especially around biotechnology—was both politically correct and convenient for progressive celebrity activists. But that was in the “before times.”
[End]
Oh. You don’t say.
So here we have an instance of what the old Soviet leaders used to call a “useful idiot,” Mr. Young, shooting himself in the foot by picking a fight he can’t win, and making such a damn fool of himself in public that even his fellow travelers in the corrupt news media are mocking him.
I cannot imagine a more fitting outcome to this story. Can you?
Well I heard Mister Young sing about her
Well I heard ol' Neil put her down
Well I hope Neil Young will remember
A southern man don't need him around anyhow - From “Sweet Home Alabama” by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
That is all.
Young is a shit headed moron and always has been No-one but no-one will miss him when he's gone. So hit the road jack.
FJB
Let us not forget, that Mssr Young was also one of the Viet Nam war "free speech" advocates.
Now he's out there along with all his aged fellow travelers trying to squash it. They have become their parents, and don't even realize it.
