Wednesday's Wild Absurdities: Abbott Declares Invasion, Trump Declares Candidacy, DeSantis Declares 'Scoreboard'
After giving the scofflaws in the Biden administration 2 full years to do their constitutional duty and protect the border with Mexico, Texas Governor Greg Abbott formerly declared what everyone has known for a long, long time: His state is being invaded:
The Governor, fresh off a landslide re-election to a third full term, invoked Article 4, Section 7 of the Texas Constitution, which states that the governor "shall have power to call forth the militia to execute the laws of the State, to suppress insurrections, and to repel invasions."
Under the declaration, Abbott said he would take the following actions:
Unfortunately, this doesn’t really mean a whole lot will change. Abbott has already deployed Texas National Guard and Texas State Trooper personnel to patrol the border and assist with apprehension operations. But all they can really do is detain illegals and turn them over to federal authorities, who then simply release them into the general population after some ineffectual formalities.
