Wednesday's Wonderful Absurdities: Florida Dems Go With 2-Time Loser Crist to Take On DeSantis
Longtime readers of my stuff will know of my belief that abortion is not a winning issue for either political party. It has historically been an ultimate non-factor in determining the outcomes of elections, either pro or con. This is because both parties tend to stake out the most extreme positions on the matter, and about 80% of the public lies somewhere in the middle on it.
Politicians in both parties would be far better off just staying away from this issue entirely. But Politico reports this morning that Democrats think they won a rare election victory by running on the abortion issue in a hotly contested special election to serve a 4-month term through the end of this year:
But did they really? Let’s take a look:
The Dem, Pat Ryan, won by what appears to be about 2% of the vote;
Joe Biden won this same competitive district in 2020 by about…wait for it…2% of the vote;
In addition to running on the abortion issue, Pat Ryan is a decorated veteran who graduated from West Point;
Unlike his opponent in this race, Ryan will be running for “re-election” in this same district in November, but against a different GOP opponent;
Ryan’s opponent yesterday, Republican Marc Molinaro, will be running in November as well, but in a different congressional district. Apparently, New York’s “residency” requirements are more of a guideline than a rule.
So, the Democrat wins by exactly the same margin this year that the Democrat won by in 2020, and the Democrat operatives at Politico and the rest of the corrupt media go wild with glee that it was all about abortion. Typical.
