Over the past 150 years or so, the United States government has worked aggressively to protect the interests of U.S.-based business interests whenever and wherever they’ve been attacked or otherwise disadvantaged by foreign governments.
Often, in fact, American presidents and congresses have been overly zealous in doing so, as in the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s, when the CIA kept itself very busy fomenting coups d’etat and installing more friendly strong-man governments across Central and South America, Asia, and Africa.
