Thatcher stated socialism dies when they run out of other people's money. European countries have been living off US spending on Nato for almost 80 years as they build out their social welfare states. It is time for the Euro children to get out of the sandbox and rejoin the real world, and say good bye to World Economic Forum while they are at it.

I can't help but think of the meeting Zelensky had prior to his meeting with Trump and Vance. The usual suspects attending from the left and the rino faction. Coaching the Ukrainian pretend prez on how to deal with them to get his/their way. They, too, have forgotten that Trump is not Bidumb/Ozero. And it showed. Good moves by our team. MAGA.

Or he will be given one from the club closet for when your idiot college aged son brings his dumbass pal for lunch and the clown shows up in cargo shorts and a t-shirt. The glory of seeing Zelensky in a suit jacket two sizes too big will be magic.

Screw Corrupt Comedian Volodomyr and the Never Ending War He Keeps Grifting On.

That putz was TOLD by Russia to quit playing footsie with the EU and NATO. He went ahead and pointlessly put his people in harm's way. You don't have to like Putin to understand that only idiots poke grumpy bears with sharp sticks and then hide in the back while others endure the consequences.

While he jets around the world in his second-rate Che Guevara outfits, and finds time to host photo ops with fucking actors like Sean Penn AND the weird little autistic climate troll Greta, Ukrainian and Russian young men are shivering in misery in between bouts of pure terror and death.

"weird little autistic climate troll Greta"

That phrase was enough reason to like your comment...

Mean spirited of me, perhaps.

He had a deal with Russia, which his own negotiator said was the best deal they could hope for, in April 2022. They would have kept almost all their territory. Would have peace guarantees from Russia as well as the EU. Free to join the EU. Agree to limit his military and never join NATO. Russia would have kept the Donbass (overwhelmingly ethnic Russian) & Crimea but Ukraine need not recognize them as Russian territory. Agree to disagree. Other majority ethnic Russian regions remain in Ukraine.

NATO quickly dispatched neoliberal stooge Boris Johnson to Ukraine to kibosh the deal, threatening to withdraw Western support for Ukraine if he signed it.

Watching the commentary at various places, some folks can't seem to get past the blame part of the equation. Putin was bad. Putin should not have invaded.

But given the situation as it now stands, what do they want to do?

1) Send more money as we have been?

2) Send USA troops on the ground to Ukraine?

3) Encourage the EU to do #1 and/or #2?

4) Quietly stop doing anything and stop sending money/weapons?

5) What Trump is doing?

6) Something I haven't thought of?

A majority of US voters have zero appetite for #1 or #2 at this point.

You always have a choice, but sometimes all the choices are pretty bad.

After the Oval Office Presentation/cat fight...

I did not understand Vance's complaint about "disrespecting" until I thought about the conversation in terms of trust.

Trump proposes a "solution".

Zelensky, at the public signing time, presumably after the negotiating was done, expresses concern about Putin violating agreements. Seems like a perfectly reasonable concern and is in some ways. What good leader doesn't want to protect his people from future harm.

But by expressing this concern, what Zelensky is saying, is that he does not trust Trump or the USA or both.

One, that is disrespectful and probably what set Vance and Trump off. They just skipped a few steps of explanation.

Two, if Zelensky does not trust us, then why is he even here for this process? And why does he accept aid from folks he doesn't trust? He did not express his concerns in a constructive manner.

Three, I wonder if language was a barrier to mutual understanding.

Two things: First, it is being reported that the UK & Ukraine signed a minerals deal before the inauguration. If so, Zelenskyy tried to play the US with his delay in signing.

Second: The US should have left NATO when the Warsaw Pact dissolved in March-July 1991 & be replaced with a European defense organization that include the Warsaw Pact. Why are we supporting counties that look down at us while their hand is out asking for money? Asking for a friend.
